No matter which guilty pleasure provoked your love for Bethenny Frankel (her Skinnygirl Margarita and starring role on Bravo’s The Real Housewives of New York, were what won us over), the new mom, New York Times best-selling author, “health foodie” and reality TV star’s power (and beauty) is undeniable. She is open, unfiltered and refreshingly honest. She says it how it is, shares the lessons she’s learned (especially about food) and bans dieting. And she does it all with wit and charm.
So, we sat down with Bethenny Frankel and asked her to weigh in on Real Beauty.
What do you think makes someone beautiful?
What do I think makes someone beautiful? Just being you. I think dressing and having makeup and hair that really suits exactly your personality is beautiful. It’s not trying to fit a square in a round hole – just being you.
How do you deal with the pressure for body perfection in our culture?
I don’t. There is no dealing with it because my book Naturally Thin it’s all about learning all about how to not stress about it. I’ve learned how to incorporate body acceptance into my life, to live and eat like the Europeans do (where you just eat and you don’t overindulge all the time and it just becomes balanced). I used to be obsessed. I’m glad I’m over that.

If you could give your younger self advice about beauty, what would it be?
Stay out of the sun, sleep more – but I still don’t do that now, I work so hard it’s crazy! To my younger self I would say, just stay out of the sun. And don’t obsess. That’s what I would have said to my younger self: don’t obsess at all – I wish I knew everything I wrote about in Naturally Thin back then.
What is your one, can’t-live-without-it beauty product?
Just a serum for under my moisturizer. Oh, no, under-eye concealer. Definitely under-eye concealer.
