Growing up is hard. Growing up in Hollywood is, well, to put it lightly: harder. Brittany Curran, though, seems to have done it flawlessly, with poise, dedication and passion. Not only is she a rising TV star (she currently plays Lucy on TNT’s Men Of A Certain Age), but also, alongside her myriad of leading roles in film and television, is a Real Beauty. She may have been named by Kidzworld.com one of the “Top-Five-Faces-To-Watch” in 2007 for her acting chops, but we think we’ll be watching her for more than just her on screen talents.
We asked Brittany Curran to weigh in on Real Beauty…
What do you think makes someone beautiful?
A person’s confidence and freedom to be comfortable in their own skin is what makes a person most beautiful. Poise, the way they walk. I know it sounds cheesy, but I’ve been realizing that the men I’m most attracted to lately have an inner security that projects outward and makes them even more sexy than their already attractive outer appearance.
How do you deal with the pressure for body perfection in our culture?
I just focus on myself and work on becoming the best me. There is no such thing as perfect and if there were, it would be boring and cookie-cutter. The last thing we want, or need, is someone in a board room dictating to us what perfection is. If I’m unhappy about something, I don’t sulk about it, I just find a way to modify or fix it. I used to not like my legs so I started to hike a lot, do A LOT of lunges and stretches. Now I love wearing short dresses.
When do you feel the most beautiful?
Great hair and make up helps before a red carpet event…. but I think beauty is within.
If you could give your younger self advice about beauty, what would it be?
I would have told myself to get laser hair removal right away and to never have started shaving. I would also tell myself to truly appreciate the innocence and simplicity of ‘beauty’ at that young age. I think at every age, we should study our faces and remember them, cause we’ll always be changing and never have that exact face again.
What is your one, can’t-live-without-it beauty products?
I have three – Lavender body exfoliant, extra-virgin cold-pressed olive oil to wash my face and mascara!
Who is your beauty role model?
Elizabeth Taylor, she is ‘woman’ personified. She knew how to compliment her features and was always so classy.
