Erica Rose first burst on the scene as the self-described “princess” on ABC’s The Bachelor: Rome. And while she may not have won the heart of bachelor Prince Lorenzo Borghese on the 2006 season of the hit dating show, she certainly won ours!
As an aspiring power attorney and reality television princess (more recently appearing on VH1’s You’re Cut Off!), Erica may seem like a bit of a contradiction. Sure, she comes off as a bit spoiled on TV; but, if we’ve learned anything working in media, it’s that reality TV editing can do wonders to only shine light on its stars’ less-than-stellar moments. And we can certainly attest from our personal interactions with Erica that she is nothing but sweet, smart and certainly savvy. She is loyal, dedicated, hardworking and a Real Beauty.
We sat down with Erica Rose and asked her to weigh in on Real Beauty.
What do you think makes someone beautiful?
As much as beauty is only skin deep, I know some beautiful people who aren’t very sweet! But the opposite is also true- I know people who wouldn’t conventionally be beautiful who have such a great personality and who are so kind that they appear beautiful Confidence also helps. Sometimes people have a special, beautiful feature like amazing eyes or gorgeous hair that can make them stand out.
When do you feel most beautiful?
I wish I could say first thing in the morning! I feel most beautiful when I’m having a good hair day so either right after I’ve gotten a blowdry or the next day. I have to be having a good skin day too, but foundation can help with that. Other than that, I think I look better when I’m not wearing heavy eye make-up or dark lips, but rather minimal. It doesn’t matter what I’m wearing whether it’s juicy sweats or a fabulous Dolce and Gabbana dress as long as I’m comfortable. I definitely have days where I feel beautiful and other days where I feel horrendous…
How do you deal with the pressure for body perfection in our culture?
I’ve learned a long time ago to just try and make my body look its best but not to worry about other people or their bodies. I’m a naturally curvy girl who will never be a size two and I’m more than okay with that! I just try and work out and eat healthy in order to look and feel my best. The pressure is hard though. I’ve definitely encountered my fair share of insults about my body and I just have to not let it get to me.
If you could give your younger self advice about beauty, what would it be?
Don’t get hair extensions, they ruin your hair! And once you start it is hard to stop.
What is your one, can’t-live-without-it beauty product?
Eyelashes! I like to wear lash extensions so I don’t have to worry about mascara.
Who is your beauty role model?
My mom is my beauty role model! She looks like a sister more than a mother, but she is still elegant and age-appropriate. She has taken such good care of herself- she’s the only woman I know who has perfect cellulite-free thighs!
