While most recognizable for her role as ‘Jan Levinson,’ Steve Carell’s rigid boss and love interest, on NBC’s The Office, Melora Hardin has also had notable roles on USA’s Monk, as the adult female lead in “Hannah Montana: The Movie” as well as in 17 Again, Thank You for Smoking, Absolute Power and 27 Dresses with Katherine Heigl. And while these noteable roles certainly establish her as a silver screen queen, her talents do not end there. Rather, the mother of two has also recorded 3 albums (the last of which, All The Way To Mars, features songs from Broadway, standards, pop, and a few she even wrote herself!) and even recently made her directorial debut with the independent feature, You. Throw in a stint on Broadway staring as Roxie Hart in Chicago and, well, it becomes increasingly clear that Melora is a brilliantly talented woman.
So, we sat down with Melora Hardin and asked her to weigh in on Real Beauty…
What do you think makes someone beautiful?
Kindness and humor, open-mindedness, warmth and style…
How do you deal with the pressure for body perfection in our culture?
I work hard to keep my body healthy. I eat well, dance & work out, so I am very conscious about when I feel my best and that’s when I also look my best, but I don’t really conform to any concept of body perfection since I don’t believe there is any such thing. Everyone is different. There are many beautiful bodies and body-types, so always working toward and just staying in good health and keeping toned muscles is the way I approach it.
If you could give your younger self advice about beauty, what would it be?
Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen!!!
What is your one, can’t-live-without-it beauty product?
Blush! I put cream blush on top of my foundation or right on clean skin, powder and then do another powder blush on top of that. I love having color but I don’t go in the sun, so this is my quick beauty fix.
