The English-Australian pop singer first burst on the public scene as part of the Australian television series, Popstars, a TV talent show with the goal of creating a successful new female pop group. And that they did. The resulting group, Bardot, debuted their first single at number one on the Australian pop charts and immediately threw Sophie Monk into the spotlight where, let’s be honest, she really belonged all along anyway.

Since then, though, Sophie has established a solo singing career with the release of an album, Calendar Girl, and, more recently, has begun acting, making her American TV debut in the Golden Globe Award-Winning HBO Comedy, Entourage – followed soon thereafter with acting roles in both Date Movie and Click. And while her numerous talents certainly make Sophie a woman to watch, what we love most about Sophie is her self-awareness, honesty and openness. Let’s be honest: It’s not often that the stunningly beautiful open up about their insecurities and admit to being (sorta) like the rest of us (minus the aforementioned stunning looks), but oh how refreshing it is when they do.

So, we sat down with Sophie Monk and asked her to weigh in on Real Beauty.

What do you think makes someone beautiful?
Confidence. I truly believe that being confident is the most beautiful thing a woman can do. I feel that personality is also a huge factor. Also, if a woman can relate to another woman, there is beauty in that connection.

How do you deal with the pressure for body perfection in our culture?
Honestly, the pressure for body perfection sucks. There’s a huge amount of pressure on women to be beautiful in our culture. Sometimes I think it’s so unfair being a woman. Some days I wish I were a hippie.

See how we’re getting over our body obsessions!

If you could give your younger self advice about beauty, what would it be?
I would tell myself to not wear makeup at such an early age…. I learned that less is best and that being natural is the sexiest thing a woman can do.

What’s your one, can’t-live-without-it beauty product?
I love all the products by Napoleon Perdis. The products are amazing. Their China Doll Concealer ($40) is my all time favorite and the Mesmer-Eyes Mascara ($25) makes your lashes look amazing.
