Tameka Raymond Dishes On Beauty, Health + More

By Diana Zarowin

You may know her best as Usher’s ex-wife, but we know Tameka Raymond as a real beauty – and not just because she radiates it. Rather, the fashion stylist is currently on a mission to help all people find their individual style through her Style Theory Workshop, and, well, if helping other women realize their real beauty does’t make you one too, we don’t know what does!

Tameka Raymond: On Real Beauty

What does real beauty mean to you?
Real beauty to me means to be comfortable in your own skin. It’s important to have confidence in who you are as a person, and be confident in your abilities and what you have to offer.

When do you feel the most beautiful?
I feel most beautiful when I’m dressed up in a nice dress and a sexy pair of heels. I love being a woman and being feminine, and when I’m dressed nicely my confidence is at an all time high. It may be different for others, but as a stylist, fashion is a huge part of my life.

How do you deal with the pressure for body perfection?
I embrace the fact that I am not built like everyone else. A healthy weight is for me may not be the same for everyone else, therefore I do not compare myself to others.

You survived a cardiac arrest back in 2009 – how did that change your view of your body and health?
Going into cardiac arrest made me realize how important it is to work out and to take care of my body. I can still enjoy all of the foods that I love, but I must do so in moderation. I would [also] recommend always scheduling annual checks, and to be proactive about proper healthcare.

What’s one thing you wish you knew when you were younger?
Not be in such a hurry to grow up! Life is a gift that I cherish, and I would have taken more moments to appreciate where I was, and enjoy my journey more to where I am headed.

Last, but not least…what’s in your makeup bag right now?
MAC concealer, Chantecaille foundation stick, Anastasia Brow-wiz, and always a Kevyn Aucoin lipstick, and Stila lipgloss.
