Tara Stiles may have the body many of us long for, but it is her confidence – and her desire to share that confidence with others – that has those of us at The Beauty Bean swooning. The former model and yoga superstar is contagiously confident and spreading the message of health, wellness and happiness in a way few women have had the power to do in recent generations. As the face of yoga for Women’s Health Magazine and the founder of Strala Yoga, Tara wants you to know that you don’t need to wear spandex, say “om,” or call yourself (or look like!) a “yoga person” in order to make yoga a part of your life and to connect with your body. And while her promotion of yoga for everyone is certainly enough to warrant our admiration, it is her healthy and relatable approach to exercise, nutrition and wellbeing that has made her not only our pick for this week’s On Real Beauty series, but also the go-to yoga guru for the likes of Deepak Chopra, Mariel Hemmingway and Brooklyn Decker.
We sat down with Tara Stiles and asked her to weigh in on real beauty.
What do you think makes someone beautiful?
When someone is confident, happy and excited to be alive, they radiate a beauty that is so much more powerful than the size, shape and arrangement of their features.
How do you deal with the pressure for body perfection in our culture?
Staying authentic to ourselves is very challenging, but when we do, everything lines up in our direction. It’s one of the biggest secrets to happiness and success.
If you could give your younger self advice about beauty, what would it be?
Sleep when you can, drink more water and brush your teeth every night no matter how tired you are!
What’s your one, can’t-live-without-it beauty product?
Pangea Organics Italian Red Mandarin with Rose Lip Balm ($12). It’s in my pocket at all times.
