Alicia Keys Goes Makeup Free At The VMAs
Our favorite beauty look at the VMAs was actually the only one that both required no work at all and that we’re 100% sure you can pull off at home: the makeup free look Alicia Keys rocked.
And no, we’re not talking that no-makeup-but-you’re-really-wearing-a-boat-load-of-makeup look.
We’re talking makeup free.
As in zero makeup.
On a red carpet.
In May, Alicia Keys told Lenny (super star feminist Lena Dunham’s newsletter), “Before I started my new album, I wrote a list of all the things that I was sick of.” She goes on to say that “one was how much women are brainwashed into feeling like we have to be skinny, or sexy, or desirable, or perfect.”
Her pushback on the pressure for unrealistic beauty ideals: saying bye-bye to makeup.
She’s since performed at the Democratic National Convention, shot the cover of her album, and, now, walked the red carpet of the VMAs sans makeup.
Now that’s what we call a Real Beauty walking the walk.
