With a recurring role on Mad Men – you may remember her as the only woman Don Draper could never get, and that’s because she really is that good – Caity Lotz has made her mark. And not just because of her striking beauty. Rather, Caity Lotz is about to debut as the star of MTV’s newest TV show, Death Valley, (premiering at the end of August 2011,) is currently shooting Live At The Foxes Den with Jackson Rathbone, and, well, we’re sure that’s not the last we’ll hear of her. Rather, this 24 year-old Real Beauty is also strong, passionate, smart and Real!
We sat down with Caity Lotz to talk about Real Beauty
What do you think makes someone beautiful?
Passion. It lights up your soul and it shines through.
When do you feel the most beautiful?
When I’ve been eating healthy and exercising a lot outside. It’s like all the energy is cycling through you… the plants you eat, the sun you soak up and the sweat you put out.
How do you deal with the pressure for body perfection in our culture?
I’m definitely still figuring it out, but I try to focus on how our uniqueness makes us interesting and remind my self that I don’t want to be cookie cutter, I wanna be me!
Does starring in a new show affect how you feel about beauty and your body?
It definitely put more pressure on me. It’s hard not to feel the need to look “perfect.” You have a lot of people counting on you and the way you look is a big part of your job. I just try to remind my self that my character is a real chick who’s not perfect and my real body works perfectly for that!
Did your beauty or fitness routine change when you landed this role?
Not really, no. Just some more training in martial arts to make my fighting skills more authentic. I try to always eat healthy and exercise because it makes me feel good and I want to feel that way all the time.
If you could give your younger self advice about beauty, what would it be?
Learn to accept and love your body type. If you’re curvy love your curves, if you’re muscular embrace it, skinny own it, or whatever it is you think you are, go with it! Don’t try to change your self into something your not because you’ll never be content because you’ll never be you.
As a teen role model, what message do you hope to send to all your young viewers?
Think for yourself and don’t be afraid to ask questions. In school we’re taught more what to think then how to think and we don’t always tap into our creative potential. There are a lot of problems in our world and it’s original thought and ideas that will solve them. People were so sure the world was flat until someone dared to differ. So get curious and always keep learning because what’s impossible today, you might make happen tomorrow.
Who is your beauty role model?
I like P!nk a lot because she just doesn’t give a F*&$ about what everyone thinks about her, and her body is strong and powerful like her personality.
What is your one, can’t-live-without-it beauty products?
Face lotions. I hate the feeling of dry skin, and for some reason fresh moisturizer on my face makes me feel like I’m on a tropical island.
