Sure, we’d love to hate her. Just that body alone puts her on most of our “do not like” lists, (not even to mention that she’s dating Grammy Award winner and philanthropist John Legend). Unfortunately, it’s just not that easy – because, if you spent just a moment talking with Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model Chrissy Teigen (or perusing her hysterical twitter feed), you would know that she isn’t just gorgeous on the outside (and that she undoubtedly is), but also stunningly beautiful on the inside too.
Hoping that just a little bit of Chirssy’s intellect, charm, humor and beauty would rub off on us, we asked her to talk with us about Real Beauty. Heck, we figured that if anyone is comfortable in their own skin, it’s got to be swimsuit models, right? They do, after all, bare (almost) all for the camera (while many of us shy away from the camera even fully clothed) – and that’s the kind of confidence we’d like to get in on.
So, we sat down with Chrissy Teigen and asked her to weigh in on real beauty.
What do you think makes someone beautiful?
Without a doubt, confidence! Walking with your head tall, being proud of your body type and knowing the right things to do FOR your body type. And a smile is beautiful on anyone — your energy will rub off on others!
How do you deal with the pressure for body perfection in our culture?
You just have to understand that we are all different and there is no single “perfect body”! Example, the perfect body for runway is certainly not the perfect body for my man to hold onto :-) There will always be pressure to be “in shape” but that pressure should make you want to live a healthy, fun life, not one that revolves around someone else’s idea of perfect.
If you could give your younger self advice about beauty, what would it be?
LESS IS MORE!! Oh my gosh. My high school days were horrible: smokey eyes, false lashes. I even think I shopped around for NYC agencies looking like that and I was turned down 11 times and could NOT figure out why. Less IS more! Except when it comes to eyebrows. Then, more is more. I think I nearly plucked them all off as a young Chrissy.
What’s your one, can’t-live-without-it beauty product?
ONE? So hard! I’d say a dab of concealer can go a lonnnng way. And a nice, thick moisturizer on my face. Mmmmm a good one should feel like it is feeding your skin.
