What do you do when you’re made fun of for singing too loudly in your school’s choir? Well, you become a nightclub staple with your dance music, of course. Or at least that’s what Consuelo Vanderbilt Costin did. With her strong vocal chords and upbeat tracks, Consuelo’s first single, ‘Naked,’ was on the Billboard Dance Charts for 16 consecutive weeks, peaking at #12. But just an upcoming musical talent she is not. Rather, this descendent of the Vanderbilts, is an advocate for gay rights and a champion in the fight against Ovarian Cancer, even writing a song for her mother, Serena, who sadly passed away from Ovarian Cancer in 2008. “Better Days” has since been licensed by the American Cancer Society to raise funds and awareness for the cause. While her second single, “Feel So Alive,” has recently hit the air waves, here we applaud Consuelo Vanderbilt Costin for being a Real Beauty – although those musical chops are certainly nothing to downplay!
Consuelo Vanderbilt Costin weighs in on Real Beauty…
I think beauty is… the gift of looking someone in the eyes and feeling kindness, love and a pure heart. That, to me, is true beauty.
I feel most beautiful when… I am being completely truthful and authentic in every moment or situation I am in.
My favorite body part of mine is my… Hair and Lips.
I hate my… Thighs and Butt.
I deal with the pressure for body “perfection” by… sadly, by always watching what I eat. I have been on a diet since I was six years old having been a gymnast.
If I could give young women a piece of advice, it would be… Don’t be afraid! Your going to make a lot of mistakes, we all do, but I think the worst feeling in the world is to not have ever tried. I believe that anyone can do anything at any age!
The women I most admire are… Strong, have an opinion and are not afraid of being themselves, taking a stand and fighting for their dreams and beliefs.
I am currently excited about… My single, my album coming out, touring and promoting the record and shooting a TV show.
My dreams for the future are… Setting up my own production company, music and acting.
The one lesson I try to remind myself of is to… Trust my instincts. I believe we always know what the right thing is for us to do inherently, so listening and trusting that is always a daily battle.
I wish more women would… Believe in themselves take more risks.
I wish I could… Be more compassionate at times and not react so quickly, take a moment to reflect on the situation.
My pre-event routine consists of… Always scrambling to find something to wear like a crazy person! I really need to get more clothes! I am not a shopper so it is always a problem!!
My 3 cannot-live-without-them beauty products are… Dermaquest Glyco Creamy cleanser, Clarisonic Brush, and Coq10 night cream.
My ideal spa day would include… Facial, massage, hand and feet massage, basically complete pampering, no thinking would be pure bliss.
