Kendra Andrews: On Real Beauty

Growing up with a love for movies and musicals (Judy Garland and Julie Andrews are two of her favorites!), Kendra knew by age six that she would be an entertainer.

Inspired by Michael and Janet Jackson (who wasn’t?!), Kendra attended the nationally acclaimed dance program at Florida State University where she graduated Cum Laude with a B.F.A in Dance Performance. And, well, considering her sister is Erin Andrews (of ESPN and Dancing with the Stars fame), dancing skills seem to run in the family.

After graduation from college, Kendra performed with Collective Soles of Florida and taught at the Atlanta Ballet Center for Dance Education. And, since then, Kendra has performed at the 82nd Annual Academy Awards, at NYC’s Tap City and in multiple national commercials and music videos. Recently, though, she made her acting debut in Step Up 3D, as Anala.

Appreciating her body for what it is capable of and how it can move more so than how it looks, Kendra is a Real Beauty.

So, we sat down with Kendra Andrews and asked her to weigh in on Real Beauty

What do you think makes someone beautiful?
I think that sincerity, selflessness, humility, authenticity, and showing gratitude makes someone beautiful.

How do you deal with the pressure for body perfection in our culture?
I don’t like to feel pressured about ANYTHING and at the same time I’m not unrealistic about what my industry or what society demands…so in order to  not feel pressured I channel it in a way that I can challenge myself because I  do love a challenge.  For example, when I train I have goals of improving stamina, beating my own time running, doing more reps of weights than the days before, etc. This way I’m focused on what feels good…growth and accomplishment.
