With our Olympic fever in full swing, who better to chat Real Beauty with than retired Gold Medalist Nastia Lukin. She’s not only the 2008 Beijing Olympics All Around Gold medal winner with five Olympic medals under her (spandex) belt, but also matches only 1996 Olympic gold medalist Shannon Miller as the most decorated American gymnast in competition.
And off the mat, or beam, or vault, or bars?
Well, she gives back (having partnered with World Vision to help her home state of Texas to recover from Hurricane Ike) and is now making a name for herself in the beauty world having been one of the first female athletes ever signed as a CoverGirl spokesmodel and now as the newest spokesmodel for TIGI Haircare.
Nastia Lukin weighs in on Real Beauty
What makes you feel beautiful? I think beauty comes from within. When you feel confident about yourself and what you are doing… You shine.
What are your must have skincare products? Philosophy Hope In A Jar is a great moisturizer. Because I work out so much, it’s so important to keep your face fresh and clean. If you’re on the go, Yes To Cucumbers Facial Towelettes are great!
What hair products are you loving now? TIGI is such an innovative brand, and they have products that are useful for every occasion. Whether you’re competing at the Olympics, attending a red carpet event, or just hanging out with friends. For the Olympics, I used Bed Head Masterpiece Hairspray. It’s key that my hair is always in place, so it doesn’t get in my eyes or face when I’m flipping. What’s great about Masterpiece is you can use it for special occasions, but you can also use it on a regular basis. Another must-have, especially when I travel, is Catwalk Session Series Transforming Dry Shampoo. It smells great and it so useful for freshening up your look on the go.
What’s the best piece of advice you ever received? My mom as always taught me to never give up on a bad day… That saved me a few times in my gymnastics career. When things are going your way or you have a bad day, it’s human nature that you just want to give up. But it’s important to sleep on it, try to have a better day and reevaluate the next day… Normally, after a good day, you won’t want to quit!
What’s one thing you wish you knew when you were younger? Everything happens for a reason.
