Regarded as one of the most talked about TV personalities on ABC’s hit series, “The Bachelor” Season 15 and “Bachelor Pad” Season 2, Michelle Money has often been perceived as a villainess. Since the show and the passing of her father to colon cancer in August 2011, Michelle has been focused on stripping away her bad girl persona by partnering and supporting organizations empowering teenage girls with self-esteem issues.
As a professional hair and makeup stylist by trade, Michelle has worked with Estée Lauder, Bobbi Brown, and MAC, among others. She is now using her professional experience in the world of beauty, and teamed up with Fashion Designer Kareen Borgella, of the K.Borgella collection; awarding three underprivileged high school students from the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization the ultimate Fantasy Prom Makeover. The glam squad consisted of Michelle Money, her bff eyebrow expert/hair stylist Laura Armstrong, from the MMAndLShow, Styling by designer Kareen Borgella, and a number of sponsors including The Finishing Bar by Fox & Jane, Nina Loren accessories, Nina Shoes, and Flirt! Cosmetics.
We sat down to talk with Michelle Money about Real Beauty…
I think beauty is… Beauty is self love. It is acceptance. It is compassion and forgiveness. It is a something that radiates from your soul. It is felt, not just seen.
I deal with the pressure for body “perfection” by…. Giving myself credit. Praising myself when I make good choices. Never putting unrealistic expectations on myself.
When the media analyzes or criticizes my body, or the bodies of others, I feel… It’s sad to me when it comes to situations like this. We all fluctuate with our weight in our lives. But to have it analyzed and broken down by people who know nothing about the person or their life situations is disheartening.
The women I most admire are… Women who are self aware. Women who are honest. Women who stand strong in who they are and what they believe. I am drawn to women who love and encourage others…who want to help lift others up and speak positively of life.
If I could give young women a piece of advice, it would be… Be kind to everyone. Be an example of all that is good and loving. Listen to your gut. If in doubt, don’t. Never compromise your standards for anyone. When you think of others before yourself, that is when you find REAL happiness.
The one lesson I try to remind myself of is to… I have struggled most of my life with never feeling good enough. I lived a very guilt driven and fear driven life for a long time. I have always been a perfectionist and my expectations of myself are very very high. It took a long time for me to recognize the accomplishments I have made in my life. It wasn’t until recently that I was able to look back and see all the amazing things I had accomplished as opposed to not doing/being enough and constantly setting unrealistic goals of perfection. How draining right???? Always praise yourself for your accomplishments. Always recognize the amazing YOU that you are. Focus on the good and the positive and it will return to you ten fold.
I wish more women would… Be honest with themselves. Ask hard questions about who they are and what they believe. And then dare to be honest about it! It is very liberating!!
On The Bachelor I learned… It doesn’t matter where you are in the world….how amazing and beautiful the surroundings….if you are not with the people you love, it is not even close to the experience it could be.
The craziest thing I’ve done for beauty is… When I was younger, it was so cool to have, like three ear piercings in one ear and then two in the other. My mom would NOT allow this, so I took matters into my own hands and pierced my own ears. I iced it til it was numb then used a safety pin and shoved it on in. My mom was pissed.
My 3 cannot-live-without-them beauty products are… I’m so glad you asked because it has changed recently!!! 1) Eminence Clear Skin Probiotic mask, 2) Big Sexy Hair volumizing dry shampoo, 3)Bobbi Brown Extra Eye Balm
Do you have any DIY beauty tips? I really do love cutting up cucumbers and freezing them and then placing them on my eyes when they look puffy or extra tired!
