Is chicken noodle soup the best pre workout snack?
A new study in the International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism has found that men that men who ate sodium-dense chicken noodle soup (a whopping 1,362 milligrams of sodium!) before working out, not only drank more water during their workout (duh) but also (surprisingly) retained more water than men who drank water before working out.
While more information is needed, this implies that kidney function changes and risk of dehydration decreases with a salty pre-sweat snack.
Not into chicken noodle soup before a workout? Try other salty snacks like salted nuts or tomato juice.
