When it comes to holiday desserts, it’s easy to go to extremes: either overindulging in seasonal treats loaded with butter, white sugar and white flour or relying on artificial sweeteners to get your sweet fix (and get in on the fun), which pose their own slew of (potentially even more dangerous) health concerns.
This season, whip up a batch of all natural, vegan and gluten-free maple glazed nuts, though, and you’ll have something sweet and satisfying to snack on while also getting your fix of healthy fats which will make even a few pieces more filling and satisfying than their artificially sweetened dessert counterparts.
Healthy(er) Dessert Recipe: Maple Glazed Nuts
1.5 cups raw cashews
1.5 cups raw pecans
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon extra-virgin cold-pressed coconut oil (liquified)
4 tablespoons Grade B Maple Syrup
Preheat over to 350 degrees.
In a mixing bowl, stir all ingredients together until well-coated. Let sit for 15 minutes to soak.
Spread evenly on a non-stick cookie sheet and bake for 30 minutes, stirring halfway through.
Remove from heat and let cool before removing from the cookie sheet. Break apart clusters (or leave them as your version of a healthy(er) candy bar when everyone else is digging into their halloween candy)
