The Master Cleanse Cocktail: Spiked Spicy Lemonade

The Master Cleanse Cocktail: Because You May As Well Detox While You, Well, Re-tox!

When it comes to imbibing, not all drinks are created equal. Paired with the right mixers, your drink can help to simultaneously prevent the inflammation, dehydration, and overall dullness caused by alcohol.

Alternatively, your drink of choice can leave you looking and feeling terrible.

Enter: The Master Cleanse Cocktail

If you’ve ever tried the Master Cleanse, (which you shouldn’t!) this Master Cleanse Cocktail may taste familiar—it’s an alcoholic take on the classic cleanse drink! But that’s most definitely not why I like it (and, no, sadly, this cocktail won’t actually provide any detox benefits). Rather, I’m a fan of this spicy cocktail both because it’s delicious and because the kick slows down your sipping and boosts your metabolism. (The capsaicin, a chemical compound found in peppers, can speed up your metabolism by about 25 percent for up to 3 hours!)

The Master Cleanse Cocktail

4 ounces vodka
2 tablespoon plus 2 teaspoons Grade B maple syrup
4 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add all the ingredients. Shake to chill. Strain and divide in two glasses. Serve immediately.
