As you get ready to pop the cork on the bubbly and ring in the New Year, you may want to think about getting a head start on the champagne – and not just because you’re either drinking to over come holiday stresses or are merely a lush (although if those win you over, we’re not judging). Rather, we think you should tap into the bubbly for its beauty benefits!

3 DIY Beauty Treatments Taping Into The Benefits of Bubbly

For Your Hair.
Champagne is not just for sipping this New Year’s Eve! Joel Warren of Warren-Tricomi Salon, explains that champagne makes for an excellent hair treatment (especially for blondes), helping you achieve smooth and silky hair. And it’s easy. Just mix one-half cup of your favorite champagne with one-half cup of hot water and distribute the mix evenly throughout your hair. Let it marinate while you are preparing yourself for a night of luxury before rinsing and styling as usual.

According to Sherrell Dorsey, natural beauty expert and licensed skin therapist, your favorite bottle of bubbly can help you beautify your face too!  For a simple skin toner, mix an antioxidant-rich Sparkling Wine Toner, ideal for normal to oily skin. Just soak a cotton pad in chilled sparkling wine and wipe thoroughly across a cleansed face, neck and décolleté. As Dorsey explains, “champagne is extremely high in antioxidants due to the grape seed extract which packs more vitamin C and E than your average toning and anti-aging products…protecting the skin’s vital collagen and elastin from environmental free radicals and oxidative stress.” Just remember that alcohol can be drying, so only use this treatment 1-2 times per week and be sure to follow with moisturizer.

Bubble bath takes on a whole new meaning when you’re replacing bath salts with champagne! As Moms To Work columnist Jill Mikols Etesse explains, the carbon dioxide bubbles in a bottle of your favorite champagne can replace the jets on a fancy Jacuzzi and help exfoliate dry, dull skin. Before you get in the bath, rub down with a salt scrub to increase circulation. As you get in the tub, pour in both bath gel and champagne simultaneously (perhaps to prevent you from chugging the bath water – kidding!). Skeptical of the sparkling wine’s ability to exfoliate? You won’t be when you see the dry skin flakes that have come off when you drain the tub! (We know, it’s kinda gross, but cool!)
