For those of us set in our hair care ways, the time has come to think outside of the box – the hair color box, that is! For there’s a new concept making the rounds. One that you’ve most likely seen cropping up on the shelves of your favorite drug store in the past month… and one that certainly peaked our curiosity the first time we laid eyes on it.
Meet the newest addition to the at-home hair coloring game: Foam, or mousse, hair color.
Touting an easier, more efficient way to achieve your desired results, hair giants across the board seem to be stepping up to the plate lately with their own variations of foam dyes. “It doesn’t require root touch-ups, which many women find easier. It’s a product that you can do a full-head application every time,” explains Wendy, a spokeswoman for L’Oreal, who recently launched their Sublime Mousse line of hair color.
In addition to L’Oreal, John Frieda and Clairol have recently launched their own mousse lines as well. All three promise salon-quality results for a fraction of the salon price tag, in addition to full color coverage for evenly distributed dimension throughout.
It may just be us, but doesn’t foam sound so much more fun than regular, drippy and messy hair dye, anyway?
Once you’ve found your perfect shade, heed these few application tips from John Frieda Creative Colour Director, Nicola Clarke:
1) Always use as much foam as you can. For short hair, use at least 2/3 of the bottle. For shoulder length to long hair, use the entire bottle.
2) Carefully massage foam through the hair with your fingertips.
3) Be gentle to prevent your hair from tangling.
