Relaxing Hair Treatment For Healthier Hair

Indian women have relied on oil head massages for centuries to maintain strong hair, promote healthy scalps, and keep stress at bay.
The combination of the conditioning oils and the intensified circulation from the massage leaves us with healthy, shiny locks and a relaxed state-of-mind. While this pampering hair treatment can be done at any time, we think it’s the perfect at-home beauty treatment to prepare you for the week ahead (and Makeup Free Monday, of course).
Here’s how to do it!
How To Give Yourself A Relaxing Hair Treatment
Heat up an oil of your choice so it is warm to the touch (about 10-15 seconds in the microwave should do the trick). Short hair will require no more than a teaspoon, while long, thick locks may require about a tablespoon and a half. Coconut oil is excellent for promoting hair growth, olive oil is great for dry scalps and neem oil has long be a secret ingredient popular in India!
Separate your hair into six sections (three on the top of your scalp and three at the bottom). Fasten each with bobby pins or clips.
Dip a cotton ball into the warm oil and dab the oil onto the exposed sections of your scalp.
Release your hair from the clips or pins and massage your whole head in a front-to-back direction using your thumbs and fingers.
Dip your fingers in the remaining oil and run them through your hair. With a scrunching motion, make sure the oil is absorbed into your locks.
Looking down, massage your temples in a clockwise motion with your index and middle fingers. Work your way up to the top of your forehead and back down to your temples.
Keeping your knuckles close to your scalp, gently tug your hair (and head) from side-to-side several times. Start at the front of your hairline and work your way to the back of your head.
In the same motion used on your temples, massage your neck, moving downwards. Once you reach your shoulders, gently squeeze the muscles connecting your neck and shoulders before massaging in a clockwise fashion.
Hold your left shoulder with your left hand and use your right hand to gently push your head to the right side. Alternate sides, holding your right shoulder down with your right hand and pushing your head to the left side.
To finish, massage your head (scalp and hair) one last time using your fingertips.
Let the oil absorb into your scalp and hair for about 20 minutes. For a more intense treatment, cover your hair with a shower cap and enter a steamy shower.
Wash your hair thoroughly (2 shampoos may be required) and condition lightly, following your hair treatment.
