Modern Mullet: Wet In The Front, Dry In The Back

Ready To Rock The Modern Mullet?

For the Spring/Summer 2014 Monique Lhuillier collection, stylist Bob Recine for Moroccanoil created what we think of as the modern mullet. With slick, sleeked-back hair from roots to the nape of the neck, transitioning to long, straight, dry locks cascading down models’ backs, it’s an updated take on ‘business in the front, party in the back’. (Or, as we like to think, ‘beach in the front, city in the back’.)

The sculpted, geometric hairstyle, with its contrasting wet and dry textures, was designed for laid back summer days. “Monique’s clothes are beautiful this season – colorful, airy and very geometric. I was inspired by their elegant sensibility, fresh modern shapes and boldly feminine textures,” said Recine.

How To DIY The Modern Mullet

Step 1:  Spray Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray Medium throughout the hair (in 2” sections at a time).

Step2: Use a flat iron over each section to give it added smoothness and shine with hold.

Step 3: Comb the hair forward toward the face (from the ears up only) before applying Moroccanoil Volumizing Mousse from root to mid-length in small 1” sections, making sure hair is well saturated.

Step 4: Over the same above-the-ears area, apply Moroccanoil Styling Gel from 2” from root to mid-length before combing everything back down and into place for the wet part of the look.

Step 5: Use a Moroccanoil XLPRO Paddle Brush to smooth the rest of the dry hair down to cascade down the back.

Step 6: Finish with a spray of Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray Strong, to hold the entire look in place and to add shine.
