2 Quick Tips For Healthier Hair… And A Big Mistake You’re Probably Making!

FIRST: Shampoo your scalp. Condition your hair.

Much like a radiant complexion is dependent on your skincare routine, thick and healthy hair is dependent on a hair care routine!

Here’s the deal: with the vast majority of shampoos/conditioners, you should focus on shampooing your scalp and conditioning your hair. Not the other way around. There is, however, one exception… but you’ll have to read on for that (hint, hint: #NioxinChallenge!).

Shampoo is designed to cleanse our scalps of built up oils, dirt, and dead skin cells. Sure, it should (and will!) wash away any product (hi, dry shampoo!) in your hair too, but it will do that merely by running down though your hair while rinsing. Too many suds and bubbles on your strands, though, and you’re stripping your hair of its much-needed layers of protection. Instead of lathering up the lengths of your hair, focus your shampoo on your scalp, letting the suds cascade through your hair while rinsing. (This will remove follicle-clogging sebum and environmental residues from the scalp and hair without stripping your hair of it’s protective oils!)

Conditioner, on the other hand, is designed for that soon-to-be-gorgeous hair of yours! And when it comes to the vast majority of conditioners on the market, you should avoid applying it directly to your scalp, instead distributing the conditioner throughout your hair , starting about an inch away from your scalp.
