How To Make Your Own Honey Lip Balm
When it comes to prioritizing all natural skincare and makeup, a great place to start making the transition from conventional to natural is on your lips.
Well, because as gross as it sounds, you end up eating a fair amount of the products you put on your lips via lip-licking or just eating!
Plus, it’s an easy place to start too. As Eve Cabanel, a certified aroma therapist and the author of the blog Organic Beauty Recipes explains, “Making lip balm requires few ingredients and it very easy to make at home!”
On a mission to inspire and empower women to ditch all the chemical filled beauty products for a healthier lifestyle, Eve shared with us this exclusive recipe for Honey Lip Balm made using coconut oil (a great moisturizer packed with vitamin E), sunflower oil, mango butter, beeswax (which forms a natural protective barrier to prevent chapped lips), and, of course, honey (which is antibacterial, anti-fungal, and antiseptic!).
DIY Honey Lip Balm Recipe
4 tbs of organic beeswax pellets
2 tsp of organic coconut oil
1 tsp of raw organic liquid honey
2 tsp of organic sunflower seed oil
1 tsp of organic mango Butter
Melt beeswax, oils, and honey in a double boiler on low heat. If you do not have a double boiler, simply use an aluminum bowl placed in a pan filled with warm water.
Once the beeswax has melted, take it off the heat and start whipping with an electric or manual mixer until the liquid becomes frosty and the honey well blended. (At first you will see the honey at the bottom of the oils, which means you need to mix more!). If it has already starting to harden, don’t panic! Put it back into the double boiler for a few seconds until it melts again.
Pour into 8 lip balm containers and let cool for 2 hours until it has completely solidified.
Apply on your lips as often as needed!
The shelf life of this honey lip balm is about 6 months, depending on the shelf life of the oils and butters you have used. It does not need to be refrigerated.
