Some people may like drawing attention to their lips, but we’re partial to emphasizing our peepers. Applying eye shadow is okay, and liner isn’t too much of a drag but when it comes to the mascara and curling…let’s just say it’s not our forte. Needless to say, when we were invited by celebrity makeup artist Christian Zamora to come into Courtney Akai Lash Boutique for eyelash extensions and a lash dip, we accepted the invitation without hesitation.
For all of you nervous about lash extensions, rest assured: lash extensions at Courtney Akai are totally safe. The non-toxic and formaldehyde-free bonding agent used in the extension does not touch the lash line or eyelid and thus does not inhibit growth. Plus, the semi-permanent glue is applied to each lash one at a time so as to not irritate or damage the eye.
While lash extensions can and should be fully customized to meet each client’s personal style, lash extensions can lengthen lashes as much as 50% and can add 30-50% of thickness! And they last up to 6-8 weeks depending on the growth cycle of your lashes (although regular touch-ups can keep them looking dramatic and full for much longer!).
As our synthetic lashes were applied one by one (Courtney Akai Lash Boutique also offers mink extensions!), we were nothing short of relaxed. Laying down in the fun, girly atmosphere, with awesome music, the time flew by. We felt no pain at any point in the process and the extensions were finished in less than an hour (although it takes 2 hours for a full set).
We then moved onto the LashDip, a brand new, semi-permanent lash coat that gives the look of bold lashes without mascara. Currently only available in two salons in New York, LashDip is a water and sweat resistant formula that adds curl, volume and length to either natural lashes or extensions, while also separating and sculpting the lashes for the look of mascara, without any, for a full six weeks! You won’t need any mascara or curlers to achieve bold lashes from right when you wake up, through your workout, to when you go to bed, perfect for us girls who don’t want to spend too much time on their eye makeup!
