Get The Look: Opening Ceremony’s Glossy Eyes

The New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2016 Backstage Beauty Report: Glossy Eyes

If model’s eyes on the Spring/Summer 2016 runways at Opening Ceremony looked glossy, it’s because, well, they were precisely that: adorned with lip gloss!

Here’s the deal…

Designer: Opening Ceremony

Lead Makeup Artist: James Boehmer, NARS Director of Global Artistry

The Scoop: “The collection was inspired by the unfinished projects of the architect Frank Lloyd Wright so it has a lot of graphic elements – sharp tailoring and cutouts with architectural edges. There is also this botanical element to the presentation, so we talked about the idea of hothouse flowers, a botanical green house with moisture and condensation on the skin. The look is really controlled, beautiful sweat – nude, muted lip with very glossy skin,” said James Boehmer.

How To DIY Glossy Eyes

To get the glossy eyes, James Boehmer painted Triple X Lip Gloss on the eyelids, pressing it into the skin to create “controlled sweat.”

The result: a look that Boehmer explains is like “If you’re steamy in a sauna maybe how you’d want to look when you come out.”

While Boehmer says that this is likely a look that will stick to the runway (not the real-way), we disagree – although we’ll probably apply lip gloss to our eyelids a bit more sparingly… and maybe stick to the brow bone for a more subtle take on the look.
