86,400 Reasons To Try Affirmations

By Tricia Huffman, Your Joyologist

Affirmations. You have probably heard of them but thought those aren’t for me.

It sounded too hippy-dippy.

Too woo-woo.

Too self-help-esque.

I get it. I am a somewhat reluctant hippy myself.

Sure, I love doing yoga, drinking green juice, and living a life that I love. But I also love drinking wine, 5 star restaurants, and you won’t find me at a drum circle.  I am a rock and roll, cussing roadie at heart (that was my first career after all, touring with bands around the world doing sound for them). It was a true dream come true, but also one that showed me first hand that everyone needs daily inspiration to keep going.

Your favorite celebrity, who seemingly “has it all,” with her millions of followers, sold out arenas of screaming fans, and private plane? Even she has days where she doesn’t want to get out of bed in the morning. Days where she is overcome with doubts, fears, and worries. We all do.

We are afraid of being rejected, of being wrong, of speaking up. We think: “It’s too hard,” “They are never going to say yes,”  “I am not good enough.” We make up meaning about unanswered emails and the look a stranger gives us. Our thoughts spiral out of control and our reality follows.

So, how do you stop it in its tracks? By using affirmations!

That’s not to say that negative thoughts won’t enter your realm, but you do have the power to overcome them. Just one simple affirmation has the power to turn your day around. So, the next time you hear yourself say, “This is too hard.” Instead, tell yourself “I can do anything I put my mind to!” or “I got this!” or “I am unstoppable!

Ready to change your life one affirmation at a time?

There are 86,400 seconds in a day, so why not transform you life in just a few of them?

Kick out the thoughts that put you down and create new thoughts that light you up and lift you up with your own affirmations. Make them up, set calendar reminders, put post-its in your bathroom. Be as spiritual or as playful as you like.  “I am whole and complete in this now moment.” is just as powerful as “I am a fucking badass.”  Read them, believe them, own them!
