Not Sleeping? Try This For A Better Night’s Sleep

How To Sleep Better

By Alix Turoff

There are so many reasons why we might not get enough quality sleep. From working too many hours or playing too many late nights, from our technology addictions to health reasons, we’re often skimping on the recommended 8 hours of shut-eye per night.

When we don’t get enough sleep, not only do we not perform as well in our daily lives, we also tend to eat more unhealthy things and skip out on exercise, which leads us to feel even crappier than our lack of sleep already has us feeling. We’re also more likely to get sick more often if we regularly lack enough sleep.

You’re not, however, doomed, sleepless beauty…

Here are a few solutions that have helped us get more sleep and we want to share them with you so that you can start improving your quality of life, STAT!

6 Ways To Boost Your Beauty Sleep

Chill out throughout the day.
When you’re stress levels are soaring all day long, it’s hard to get them to drop when you’re ready to hit the sack. The result: restless nights spent tossing and turning, not getting the shut eye you need! As you notice your stress levels increasing throughout the day, apply Lifetherapy Chill Pulse Point Oil ($29) to the insides of your wrists, the back of your neck, or under your earlobes to help keep you calm, cool, and collected all day long in preparation for a better night’s sleep.

Wind down before bed.
If you get home from work and need to unwind, try feeLING Calm Massage and Bath Oil ($70) instead of reaching for a glass of wine, which can actually disrupt your sleep cycles. This organic green tea massage and bath oil can either be added to a warm bath or massaged into the skin to bring a feeling of contentment and inner peace. Mandarin orange and lavender essential oils soothe and relax the body and mind to promote a systemic calmness.

Destress overnight.
If you’re under a lot of stress, try Essence of Vali ‘Sleep’ A Bedtime Ritual ($18). The ‘sleep’ blend is strongest in the concentrate form. All you need is one drop on the corner of your pillowcase to reap the benefits of the soothing aromas of lavender, marjoram, cedarwood and ylang/ylang which work to promote quality sleep.

Get a massage.
If you’re in NYC, try a ‘Deep Sleep Wellness Massage’ at LING Skincare ($195) This hour long treatment uses an exclusive “Energy Life Machine” to infuse Far Infrared Rays (FIR) or “chi” energy into the skin to get rid of stress and anxiety. These healing FIR rays can penetrate all layers of the body to heal, soothe and stimulate both the body and mind. The Energy Lift Machine is embedded with Tourmaline which has been shown to improve circulation, reduce stress and promote relaxation to encourage deeper, more restful sleep. The Energy Lift machine stimulates the feeling of acupuncture and works to increase chi energy flow. This is followed by 35 minutes of a full body massage using a healing aromatherapy feeling massage oil ,which brings a sense of calm through the body. The treatment finishes again with the energy lift machine to restore a sense of well being and calmness, leading to improved sleep quality. Not in NYC? Any relaxing massage will help you to unplug. Check out Zeel to schedule a massage in your own home in a handful of select cities.

Make sure you’re breathing.
Turns out that a lot of us are missing out on sleep because we’re congested! Try Breathe Right Lavender Nasal Strips ($14.99) and never again will you lose shut-eye because of a stuffy nose. These drug-free, over the counter adhesive strips gently open the nasal passages to improve your ability to breathe through the nose and relieve nasal congestion. The light lavender fragrance adds an additional calming benefit. When you breathe better, you sleep better.

Protect your skin.
If your skin is suffering from lack of sleep, try the Fresh Black Tea Firming Overnight Mask ($92).This moisturizing overnight treatment gives the skin a more lifted, firmer look by the morning. Black tea extract, blackberry leaf extract and lychee seed extract block free radicals from damaging the skin and improve skin elasticity while belle de nuit extract works to soothe and rebalance the skin. Apply this mask before bed and leave on overnight to wake up to radiant skin.
