The 5-Step New Year’s Resolution Remix

Take your resolutions from failure-bound to happiness-driving in 5 simple steps.

The New Year is such an exciting time.

Fresh beginnings. New opportunities. A clean slate.

It’s also the time we all tend to focus on goal setting – resolutions, if you will.

But the word “resolution” rubs me the wrong way. It implies that you did something wrong this year and next year you need to resolve to fix it. Instead of celebrating the year that’s ended, we round out the year focusing on the negatives.

But what you focus on expands. If we focus on the areas of our lives that are already abundant, we’ll create more abundance. Conversely, when we focus on the negative, we create more negativity.

Setting optimistic (even celebratory) goals, though, isn’t enough.

Taking that a step further, if you focus on how you want to feel rather that what you want to do in the new year, you set yourself up to win (to delve deeper into this concept, check out Danielle LaPorte’s book The Desire Map).

When you focus on how you want to feel and create action items to make sure you feel that way, your entire relationship to goal setting and resolution making can expand. Have you ever reached a goal and still not felt fulfilled? Achieving goals and checking things off your list doesn’t automatically mean happiness, however this resolution remix is a surefire path to bliss.

Steps to New Years Resolution Remix:

1. When thinking about your new year’s resolutions this year, ask yourself how you want to feel in 2017? Get specific!

2. Next ask yourself what actions you will take each month to ensure you feel this way.

3. Reassess daily. Check in with yourself every morning and ask how you want to feel that day. Perhaps it’s a Saturday and you want to feel relaxed so you get a massage and take a bath or perhaps you want to feel feminine and healthy so you get dressed up and go out.

4. Believe you are worth your feelings. It’s not selfish to want to feel intense happiness. You are entitled to however you want to feel. Believing you’re worth your desires is the only way to feel what you want in 2017. Trust you have permission to feel beautiful, sexy, supported, abundant, joyful, _________(insert your feeling here).
