New Nail Polish Makes It Easy To DIY Feathered Nail Art

By Alix Turoff

It’s no secret. We love trying out new nail trends. From DIY half moons to at-home glitter manis, we’re willing to try just about anything on our nails.

The current object of our nail art obsession: Nails Inc’s Feathers Effect Nail Polish ($9.50). These new polishes are formulated with tiny feather like bar glitter particles so that when you paint it on, it actually looks like the beautiful and unique feathers of an exotic bird.

We love using the new feathers effect polish on top of lighter shades such as Calm and Clear or Transcend from Spa Ritual’s Meditate collection ($12).

If you’re layering over another polish, always start with a base coat to ensure that your polish will last through long beach days and breezy summer nights then follow with one coat of color and one or two coats of feathers and finish with a top coat. This will give your nails a nice “quill effect,” just the right amount of color to go with your new white jeans.

If you prefer a more dramatic look, you can also layer the feathers on top of themselves. 3 coats in any of the 4 colors will do. Choose from Brighton, a mix of teal and yellow, Cornwall (blue and white), Edinburgh (pastel orange and blue) or York (pastel peach and white).

Bonus: Nails Inc is cruelty free and also free of parabens, sulfates and phthalates!
