How To DIY Sand Textured Manicure

By Alix Turoff

DIY manicures are having a major moment – and now they’re about to take a textured turn.
Thankfully, with the latest nail polishes, you need neither crazy ambidextrous polishing skills nor a nail art savings account to get in on the nail art trend.
Rather, one of our favorite ways to add a nail art twist to our traditional manicures (in a way still appropriate for even the most corporate of ladies) is with texture.
Want to get in on the trend? Try China Glaze’s Texture Polish Collection($7.50). Available in six shades – Unrefined (light pink), Bump and Grind (hot pink), Itty, Bitty and Gritty (coral), Toe-Tally Textured (bright tangerine-orange), Texture In The Rough (lime green) and Texture of Coarse (bright blue) – these bright nail polishes dry with a sand-like finish for a textured take on your traditional talons.

Plus, these polishes are really easy to apply. Start with a good base coat, like Essie’s Ridge Filling Base Coat ($8) for ease of application and apply a single coat of the textured nail polish. Allow the first coat to fully dry before applying the second coat for built up texture (although a single coat will do the trick too!). And feel free to skip the top coat – it’ll take away from the gritty texture!
Better yet: these textured nail polishes dry super-fast and brilliantly conceal less than stellar manicure skills, making them ideal for ladies on the run!
