The New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2016 Backstage Beauty Report: Dry Brush Manicure

Designer: Nanette Lepore

Lead Manicurist: Caption Polish’s Senior Nail Stylist, Soo Kim

The Scoop: Caption Polish’s Senior Nail Stylist, Soo Kim, took inspiration from the texture seen in various prints and textiles in Nanette Lepore’s Spring 2016 collection, resulting in a dry brushstroke monochromatic manicure that is raw-edged and consciously imperfect. Nanette wanted manicures to have a free-spirited “DIY” feel, and you too can recreate this look at home in a few simple steps.

How To DIY A Dry Brush Manicure

  1. Apply base coat to clean, dry, filed nails.
  2. Apply two coats of Caption Polish in Look, Don’t Touch, from cuticle to tip.
  3. Clean off the brush from Caption Polish in Heaven Help Me so there is only a little polish remaining and lightly swipe across the nail in various directions to create faint brush strokes.
  4. Finish with top coat.
