Minx Made Mainstream with Metallic Polish

By Mussarat Bata

Metallic nails have been on our minds seemingly forever. Well, at least since Beyonce rocked her fierce set of Minx in the Beautiful Liar music video. They were sparkly, multi-faceted and looked like tiny disco ball mirrors on her nails. But while a Minx manicure does last upwards of 2 weeks, the hefty price tag had most of us passing on the shiny metallic trend. Until now.

Another delicious nail trend you’ll want to try!

With numerous polish designers launching lacquers in marvelous metallics, you can stop wavering on whether or not to dip into your rent (or shoe budget) to fund your Minx mani, and, instead, get the look for less. Suddenly, your biggest problem is picking the perfect metallic polish, rather than funding your trendsetting ways – which is where we come in, to help break down the shiny shades so you can find the best hue for you!

Gold: With warm undertones, golden shades tend to look best on skin of a similarly golden hue, making this an ideal shade for summer’s tanned complexions. And while we’re generally fans of bright yellow gold (at least when it comes to our jewelry), our experience has been that lacquers of a true golden hue tend to look brassy and shoddy when painted on our fearless fingers. To avoid a less-than-stellar sheen, we recommend you give a shade with a bronze or champagne tint a try instead.

Silver: If your pasty winter skin has yet to see a ray (or two) of sunlight, give silver a go. Cool silver shades stunningly compliment paler complexions, without washing you out, and give your fingers a fierce twist that will perfectly pair with all things punk-inspired.

Pewter: Pewter is one of our favorites for metallic manicures both because it mixes the taupe runway nail trend with the glitzy metallic look and because it flatters fingers of all skin tones. Plus, it won’t interfere with any jewelry choice, allowing you to switch from silver to gold at whim, without worrying about your stackable rings clashing with your perfectly painted pinkies.

The trick to the perfect at-home mani!
