Runway Hair: Rodarte Fall 2010
Oscar Beauty: Academy Award Winning Looks
Beauty experts and trend setters have been making predictions for weeks now as to what hair styles and makeup looks we expected to see on the red carpet last night. Myself included. And while our predictions are certainly well educated ones (based on a careful analysis of trends set at Fashion Week), we too watch the red carpet show with eyes peeled (and, in the case of this writer anyway, fingers typing).
So, how close were we? Well, pretty close!
LIPS
We Expected bold colors or nude finishes with only a slight shine. (The runways have been uniformly matte, but a pout looks sexier with some sheen so we expected the stars to add a bit of gloss.)
We Saw bold colors in matte or semi-gloss finishes (like the hot pink Sandra Bullock) as well as many neutral, bare lips.
We Love bold lipsticks in colors that accent dresses, rather than match (like Maggie Gyllenhaal with her fuchsia lip and blue dress and Charlize Theron’s reddish lip with her purple dress).
EYES
We Expected soft smoky eyes in neutral browns and purples.
We Saw quite a variety, but the soft smoky eye was certainly the most popular – as seen on Anna Kendrick, Zoe Saldana and more.
We Love the subtle eyes – with gorgeous gowns, stunning strands and lucisious lips, it’s nice for the eyes to stay soft and subtle.

NAILS
We Expected nude nails.
We Saw nude nails.
We Love nude nails.
Our top nude nail polish picks!
SKIN
We Expected clean, fresh skin with a healthy glow (but not a sheen).
We Saw fabulously flawless faces lightly luminized, but not shiny.
We Love that women are embracing their fair complexions and staying away from the bronzer (if only because it makes us feel better about our pasty skin).
Do you know the #1 secret for a flawless complexion?
HAIR
We Expected beachy waves and loose updos.
We Saw lots of bun-based updos (some soft and loose, others sculpted) and some 40’s waves.
We Love the soft buns that look almost effortless (even though we know a team of highly skilled professionals spent a tremendous amount of time fashioning them).
