Ponytail Gets Sleek at Donna Karan: Cutler Shows How To Get This Sensational Summer Style
By Becca Gregg
Channeling the glam getaway we’re all dying for, Donna Karan’s models strutted down the runway at her Resort show last week looking as if they walked right off of a private plane from paradise. And while the clothes were certainly stunning, we couldn’t help but notice the sexy tresses that accompanied them. Adorning the models heads were sleek ponytails that proved to be the perfect glam accessory – not only for the after-dark fashions that were showcased but also for our own sleek summer wardrobes.
Bikini necklaces: lovely whether you’re beach-bound or cubicle-cramped
Created by the world famous Cutler Salon, the look is simple and functional enough to take the (wannabe) private plane travelers among you from afternoon cocktails on the beach to the dark corners of the resort’s after-hours lounge. Or, for those of us land-locked all summer, from the hot subway to the cool office and even out for cocktails after. No matter your summer plans, though, the style is certainly ideal for keeping us looking sleek feeling cool with our hair pulled up off our backs.
Lucky for us, Cutler’s Didier Malige, the genius behind this glam and practical vacation do, was generous enough to share his secrets for re-creating the pony all by ourselves.
Spray dry hair with Cutler Volumizing Spray ($21) and Cutler Protectant Treatment Spray
($21) to add a base to the hair. Using a Mason Pearson Hairbrush
($80) and a blow dryer, manipulate the product into the hair for added texture and volume.
Create a side part on the right side of the head. Take a one inch section from the front and tuck it behind your ear.
Next, flat iron hair section by section, starting starting from the side part and working towards the top of the crown. Pin ironed sections away, making sure the clip doesn’t kink the hair.
Gather a ponytail at the crown of the head, and secure with a bungee elastic. Lightly spritz with Redken Workforce 09 Flexible Volumizing Spray.
Wrap a piece of hair from the top section clockwise around the bungee elastic, securing it with French pins.
Voila! A fresh summer do that’ll have you feeling as if you just returned from a whirlwind getaway – even if, for many of us (unfortunately),,the closest we’ll get to a chic resort this summer is seeing the vacay ads that pop up on our desktop at work. Regardless, whether or not you’re lucky enough to jet off to a far away land this summer, (or left to satisfy your hay fever with travel channel re-runs,) we here at The Beauty Bean firmly believe that telling a little white lie never hurt anyone — aesthetically speaking, that is. After all, the gas station attendant or grocery store clerk doesn’t have to know that you’re stuck stateside all summer…
