Runway Report: Blue Hued Hair at Thakoon, Narciso Rodriguez & Jean Paul Gaultier

As if Lauren Conrad’s tie-dye hair weren’t bold enough, (it was,) fashion designers took courageously colored hair to the next level… with bold blue hues for sping/summer 2012.

At Narciso RodriguezEugene Souleiman for Wella Professionals took slicked-back strands to the (vibrant) next level. The masculine hairstyle, which, he explained “is meant to look like they just ran fast” was created by taking a wide-toothcomb to the tops of French twists with lot (and we mean lots) of Wella Professionals Stay Essential Finishing Spray and Perfect Setting/Wet to help Kryolan Color Spray (a temporary, metallic colored spray) stick to strands.

How to touch up your hair color at home.

At Thakoon Panichgul… hair artist extraordinaire Odile Gilbert used organic colored clay powder (otherwise used as an ingestible stomach remedy, believe or not!) to paint color onto the messy chignons created by pulling back and tucking together two French braids to create the illusion of short hair atop the models’ heads. “Thakoon wanted color in the hair,” she explained, and that he got! While models were adorned with a variety of hues – blue, green, lilac, terra-cotta and bright pink in different combinations – it was the bright blue hair that stole the show. To prep the hair, Gilbert sprayed the hair with Kérastase Volume Expansion Spray and worked in VolumActive Mousse for a crunchy texture designed to hold the powder before dusting the colored clay and water over the hair to create a paste.

If you think blue hair is – how do we say this? – not quite so refined, think again. Jean Paul Gaultier‘s Amy Winehouse-inspired Couture collection took blue hued coifs couture. And, well, if that’s not a sign of refined sophistication, we don’t know what it. (And yes, we’re completely ignoring the fact that Amy Winehouse is arguably the least refined – albeit insanely talented – performer of all time).

Color streaked French braids bring color to grunge.

Not ready to commit to permanently blue tresses? Bold blue hair neither requires you spend hours in the salon nor that you commit to the look for longer than blue suits your mood. Rather than bleaching (and damaging) your base hair color in order to dye your strands something new, instead apply temporary color from Streekers directly to dry hair for an instant runway-inspired look, no commitment required.

Feeling blue is (finally) fashionable.
