She may host The Biggest Loser, but that doesn’t mean that Alison Sweeney prioritizes the number on the scale. Rather, the TV host, mother of two and author of The Mommy Diet knows that weight is superficial, that you’re “not the size of jeans you wear” and that we need to enjoy life.
We asked Alison Sweeney to weigh in on body image, weight loss and Real Beauty…
I think beauty is… all about confidence.
I feel most beautiful when… I’m with my family.
I deal with the pressure for body “perfection” by… setting my own standards of how I want to look and feel and learning not to let the opinions of others affect my self-worth.
When the media analyzes or criticizes my body, or the bodies of others, I feel… disappointed that people put so much value on something so superficial.
If I could give young women a piece of advice, it would be… make time to be active, take care of yourself and your body, but mostly be proud of who you are, not the size of jeans you wear.
The one lesson I try to remind myself of is to… enjoy the journey. We all set such high goals and standards for ourselves, sometimes we forget that it’s the process of getting there that supposed to be fun. If we wait until the end to celebrate we’re missing out!
3 tips I’d like to share with other women are… dress to flatter your body type, learn one fun up-do you can do to your own hair, accept a compliment.
I wish I could… sleep more.
My favorite body part of mine is… the muscle definition in my back. I work hard for it… :)
The craziest thing I’ve done for beauty is… really, I think waxing is pretty crazy… but I do it!
In the next year I hope to… compete in a triathlon.
If I could only keep 3 items in my closet, they would be… jeans, sneakers, my James Perse button down shirt.
To stay healthy… make exercise a regular part of your schedule and try something new all the time; eat at home as often as you can (home-cooked meals are good for the soul, and the body!) and find happiness in small parts of your day – even at snack time. You can enjoy eating what you love, by just making a healthier choice. I like a Red Velvet Cake Yoplait Light!
