Kristina Anapau: On Real Beauty

Wowing audiences as Galina in Black Swan (where she starred opposite Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis and Winona Ryder) and in HBO’s True Blood, Hawaii-born  Kristina Anapau is proving to be quite the woman to watch. Moreover she a true Real Beauty with a refreshing focus on health, wellness and natural beauty.

Here, Kristina Anapau weighs in on Real Beauty…

How do you deal with the pressure for body perfection in Hollywood? I grew up wanting to be a classical ballerina – form when I was 4 – when at 16 I unexpectedly got lead in a movie Escape from Atlantis. Growing up in ballet obviously you develop a bit of a complex about being very thin, and one thing I heard growing up – that I hope they don’t say anymore – is “ounces are pounds when you’re in pink tights” – but I guess the positive in that for me, is that any pressure in the acting industry seems irrelevant. I’m not very affected by it because it’s nothing compared to the ballet world!

When do you feel most beautiful? For me, lately anyway, and maybe this has to do with getting older and not focusing on the external, but it rarely has to do with the external or my body. It’s usually when I’m working on creative endeavors, when I’m writing. My confidence is coming from internal sources now and meditation. The one time I feel most at peace is when I meditate – which I do for 1 hour in the morning.

If you could give your younger self a piece of advice, what would you say? It would be a book! I don’t know where to begin. I would tell her to believe in herself, not care whatever people think and not to get sidetracked by the stuff that doesn’t matter – the dramas that don’t mean anything.

What’s your biggest beauty indulgence? I love microdermabrasion now – we have so much makeup piled on our faces at work and microdermabrasion – love Angela Nice in Beverly Hills.

What’s your regular beauty routine like? I use as much organic  skincare as possible. I love Alba Botanicals – their Sea Mineral cleansing gel leaves skin squeaky clean but doesn’t over dry it – and Laura Mercier oil-free tinted moisturizer with SPF for light, even coverage. Also, Dr. Kaplan in Beverly Hills has a whole line of skincare products and I love his clear treatment lip therapy SPF. It has hyaluronic acid and collagen which plumps lips up nicely without stinging. I smear it on at night!

How do you eat for beauty? By juicing! My favorite is anything green with parsely green apple, kale…  it’s super detoxifying and makes you feel glowing. It tastes terrible, but you down it and you look beautiful after! I also love the Orgain shakes – they’re developed by a doctor and have 10 servings of organic fruits/veggies in each shake –and tastes like a chocolate shake! Also, they don’t need to be refrigerated. I put a case in my luggage and bring them to set!
