As fall temperatures start to dip, we all begin to count down the months, days and hours until we’re back on the beach, soaking up the sun. While those beachy waves and that sun kissed glow of summer may be a long ways away, a beach-inspired hairstyle can be yours well before the sunshine starts a-shining again thanks to this look from the Spring/Summer 2012 Timo Weiland runway that may be meant for spring, but is just polished enough to work all year long.
Inspired by a “60s/70s, beachy, downtown New Yorker gone surfing,” Timo Weiland’s Spring/Summer 2012 “fresh off the beach” style was paired with hairstyles crafted by Ouidad that ranged from loosely braided long styles to twisted buns and chignons. The best part: all of these looks can be worn all year long and translate perfectly from runway to real-way with the help of Ouidad herself.
How To DIY The Timo Weiland Spring/Summer 2012 Knotted Chignon
Deep condition hair prior to styling for smooth, silky hair that’s easy to work with (this is especially important for all you straight-haired girls out there!) before prepping hair with Climate Control Heat and Humidity Gel ($38) to calm frizz and tame fly-aways and blow-drying smooth.
Split hair in two at the nape of your neck and gently tie together in a knot. Either leave as is (for a look like the image on the left), securing with bobby pins, or pin the knot up in a twisted bun and securing with bobby pins (for a look like the image on the right). Finish with a light spray of Ouidad Styling Mist ($16).
Just as on the runway, no two looks will be the same so embrace the effortlessly chic look no matter how it turns out.
For added uniqueness, push the knotted chignon to one side of your head for an asymmetrical finish.
