Black Velvet- A Chic Update to your LBD

Deep in the midst of New York Fashion Week, some trends are starting to emerge.  While spring styles are just beginning to hit stores, fall fashions are our focus, as that’s what is marching down the runways. We can’t wait to stock up on flirty spring dresses and bare our shoulders, but while the temperatures are still south of freezing, it’s time to inject our winter wardrobe with one of our favorite new trends: velvet.

Velvet started popping up on catwalks last season, but this season it is a full-on obsession. We love how Alexander Wang used it in his edgy interpretation of Wall Street, Betsey Johnson’s fun-loving take, and everything in between. This simple velvet shift dress by Clu is the perfect way to work the trend into your wardrobe. The cut is loose, but flattering – which is preferable since tight, stretch velvet is a little too Disney on Ice for our taste. Plus, who couldn’t use another chic LBD?
