What is Papaw, anyway?
The name Papaw is simply another word for what we in the United States refer to as the papaya! Although we know the papaya to be a delicious fruit, the benefits that it can have on your skin have proven over time to be seemingly endless. In fact, Papaw ointment has been used by people around the world as a skin remedy for well over a hundred years.

Benefits
Papaw can be used topically to treat pimples, sunburn, boils, bruises, chafing, cuts, burns, cysts, dry patches, cracked skin, chapped lips, insect stings, mosquito bites and splinters, among other ailments. The ointment prevents infection in wounds with its antiseptic properties and boasts of being non carcinogenic (which, disappointingly, not all skincare products can claim!). Moreover, Pawpaw can also be taken internally to aid in digestion (although we don’t recommend ingesting the ointment).

Originally formulated by Dr. P.T. Lucas at the turn of the twentieth century, Lucas’ Papaw Ointment continues to be produced in Australia from the same pure papaw formula Dr. Lucas noted in his 1906 handbook. We figured that if it’s stuck around for this long, it must be good – and it didn’t disappoint! We can only assume that the only reason Papaw isn’t more popular stateside is because no one else wants to let you in on her beautifying secret! (The Beauty Bean, however, is beautifyingly unselfish like that.)
