Anti-Aging Yoga Secrets
Looking for the fountain of youth?
Sure, SPF and eye cream will help to fight the signs of aging, but, according to Kundalini yoga (and, well, science!) it’s not enough. Instead, we have to nourish our bodies inside and out. You may already exercise for its detoxifying benefits, load up on antioxidant-rich foods to fight aging, and meditate to alleviate stress. But if you’re looking to take your anti-aging routine to the next level (all naturally, of course), check out these 3 kundalini yoga secrets for younger looking skin from Kundalini yoga superstar Guru Jagat, Founder of RA MA Institute in Venice and RA MA TV.
3 Anti-Aging Yoga Secrets
- Cool Down. Either for the entirety of your shower or just for a few minutes at the end, turn the temperature on the shower down – WAY DOWN – for its anti-aging benefits. According to Guru Jagat “cold showers improve circulation and overall look of skin, revs metabolism, and ‘wakes up’ your complexion.”
- Cat Cow. If you’ve taken a yoga class before, you’re probably familiar with the post, but, if not, begin on your hands and knees with your wrists directly under your shoulders and your knees directly under your hips. Inhale as you arch your back, elongating your head and tail bone up. Exhale rounding your spine, looking down. Breathe through your nose, doing this for 3 minutes as fast as you can. As Guru Jaget says, “In other more hip hop circles, its known as twerking, but yogically we’ve used cat cow for anti-aging for thousands of years. It stimulates the endocrine function of the pituitary gland, which is in charge of hormone and metabolism balance.”
- Try Turmeric. “In any form it’s an ancient yogic tonic for beauty, is anti-inflammatory and keeps the muscles, bones, and tissue very pliable,” says Guru Jaget. “I LOVE the turmeric shots at Moon Juice when in season, but you can find turmeric in any organic high potency form in a health food store or online.”
