DIY Scrub Recipes For Face + Body

By Alexis Wolfer

As the weather begins to chill, both our faces and bodies tend to show the change in seasons – and while the weather may be dull and dreary, those are not words we want used to describe our complexions. The solution: exfoliation!

Rather than splurging on pricey products, though, (and let us just say here that if you do have the funds, La Prairie Cellular Microdermabrasion Cream is insanely fabulous and lasts for years!), you can make inexpensive exfoliation scrubs for your face and body, likely with products you already own!

5 pucker-perfect solutions for chapped lips!

Oatmeal Facial Scrub
Whether you’re looking to save cash or have all the money in the world, an oatmeal wash is a sensational scrub that won’t make you feel like you’re taking the budget route, even if you are.  Plus, it’s easy! Just take store bought oats, grind them in a blender (keep the grounds larger for a more rigorous treatment) and then mix the grounds in with your regular facial cleanser immediately prior to use. Gently massage the mixture into your face, avoiding the eye area, in small, circular motions before rinsing as usual. For just a few dollars you’ll have a season’s worth of scrub (if not more!). This is particularly great for people with sensitive skin.

Coconut Sugar Body Scrub
While your facial skin is more delicate, your body can take a much more rigorous scrub. To discard dead, dry and dull skin cells for smooth, sexy skin, we recommend you make a sugar scrub. While sea salt scrubs are popular, they can actually pull moisture from your skin, further exacerbating the problem. Our favorite recipe is made by mixing Sugar In The Raw with virgin, cold pressed coconut oil (available in any health food store). For a more rigorous scrub, add more sugar and use a washcloth to apply. As the granular sugar exfoliates, the oil will moisturize for skin that feels like silk (and smells mildly like a tropical cocktail!).
