Known as “the golden spice of life,” turmeric boasts a multitude of health and medical benefits. The bright yellow powder has been used in the beauty routines of Indian women for millennia for glowing, clear skin. Especially when combined with lemon juice, tumeric produces a doubly powerful antioxidiant paste that results in a gorgeous, even and youthful complexion. In fact, in Hindu weddings, turmeric is applied to face, neck, arms and legs of the bride-to-be to ensure radiant skin on her wedding day. We figure, though, that there is no use in holding out on using this key beauty ingredient for our weddings. Instead, we’re adding turmeric to our beauty rituals pronto – because, well, for some of us anyway, looking good every day is significantly more important than a hypothetical marriage date in the future.

Mix the flour and turmeric together until it well-combined. Add the lemon juice and mix. Slowly add milk until a creamy paste is formed. Apply the mask to your clean face and neck. Leave the mask on for 15-20 minutes, until your skin feels tight. Wash the mask off with warm water and a washcloth. (Warning – the yellow pigment will stain the cloth, so you may want to dedicate a washcloth for your turmeric mask.) Splash your face and neck with cold water before patting dry. Apply a light moisturizer.
