Is Your City Making You Look Old?

Think your city is the best of the best? You may want to think again.

RealSelf, a leading online community for savvy health and beauty consumers, measured a slew of factors directly correlated with both looking and feeling youthful and weighed them by impact on aging and overall physical health.

After looking at sun exposure and skin cancer rates; physical fitness; disease rates; access to fresh, nutritious food; stress; smoking; sleep; gyms and athletic clubs, per capita; bars, per capita; tanning salons, per capita; spending on anti-aging; interest in Botox (as measured by searches on RealSelf); and board certified dermatologists, per capita; researchers found that San Francisco may just be the place to move if defying the laws of aging is your top priority.

The Key: SanFran scored high “for having residents who eat healthfully, are physically fit and hyper-concerned with their skin’s appearance.”

Think NYC’s standing is counterintuitive given its recent appearance on many “unhappiest” or “most stressed” lists? Turns out, while stress is #1 in NYC, NYers are willing to shell out the big bucks on anti aging remedies, countering the impact stress has on their appearance. (It does not, however, counter the impact of stress on one’s health!)

Thinking of moving? We suggest you find the place that makes you happiest since, when it really comes down to it, happy people are the prettiest people.
