As the warmth of the sun on your skin begins to fade as you regrettably head home from your holiday hot-spot, your gorgeous glow (SPF protected, of course!) will undoubtedly threaten to go along with it. The return to cool weather, though, doesn’t have to compromise your complexion. You can fight back with these super simple steps that will help maintain your sexy vacation sheen well into the New Year:

Exfoliate it. While you may think that scrubbing away the dead (and seemingly bronzed) skin cells would fade your tan faster, it is actually these dead skin cells that make your skin look drab. So scrub away with a product like Darphin’s Nourishing Smoothing Body Scrub ($60) for lasting luminosity.

How to look awake asap!

Maintain it. While you still have that terrific tan: moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! A product like Hampton Sun’s After Sun Moisturizer ($30), with Aloe Vera, Almond Oil, Chamomile, and Embilica fruit extract, is great for helping to prolong the life of your glow.

Fake it. As your tan begins to fade, as even the most well maintained ones inevitably will, begin using a daily self-tanner like Jergens Natural Glow Revitalizing Daily Moisturizer ($7.22). Daily application will ensure that your beautiful glow looks prolonged and natural, not fake and orange. For your face, add a drop of self-tanner, like Clinique’s Self Sun Face Tinted Lotion ($18.50), to your favorite foundation or facial cream. (Beauty Bean Trick: add a bit more tanner to the foundation or cream you put on your nose and forehead for a more natural look.)

The Anti-Acne Diet!

Luminize it. Light-reflecting lotions and luminizing cosmetics will instantly brighten (and seemingly darken) any tan, no matter how light it may be. For luxurious luminosity, apply La Mer’s The Radiant Infusion ($95) to your face daily and look for body lotions with subtle shimmer (Elemis Pro-Collagen Radiantly Smooth Body Cream ($162), with its hydrating and illuminating radiance, is a favorite). Highlight the bridge of your nose and the highest point of your cheekbones further with luminizing powders, like Philosophy’s Supernatural Instant Sunshine ($28), or luminizing creams, like RMS’s Living Luminizer, ($38).

Lighten it: Not your skin, but your teeth and hair. A whiter smile will help highlight your beautifully bronzed complexion and face-framing highlights (especially golden tones) will brighten your face and give your hair a beachy feel. So pick up Supersmile’s Whitening Pre-Rinse ($16), pack GoSmile TouchUp ($28) in your purse, and make an appointment with your favorite hair colorist.

Sun-kissed skin can still be yours well after that bikini has been buried away.
