Add A Serum, Change Your Skin

By Alix Turoff

Just like there’s a cover for every pot, in the beauty world, there’s a serum or every face.

Unsure whether or not you need a serum? You do! And not just because we’re beauty hoarders over here!

Rather, we love serums because they’re super concentrated versions of our favorite beauty ingredients designed to penetrate deeply for the best results possible.

Ready to try a beauty serum? Here are some of our favorites to help you achieve your best skin yet!

The best serum for the first signs of aging…
Truffles have been a hot ingredient in recipes for quite some time, and now it’s “it” ingredient in our skincare too! Skin & Co’s Truffle Therapy Serum ($78) is an anti-aging serum infused with italian truffles which are harvested on Umbrian farms. Truffles are packed with the antioxidant, SOD enzyme, which protects against the most damaging free-radicals in order to restore a healthy glow to the skin and improve firmness. This serum is also formulated with hibiscus extract which relaxes the muscles and has been shown in numerous studies to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. We especially love to use this serum as a makeup-primer because of the smooth, matte finish!

The best serum for more advanced fine lines and wrinkles…
The first area on the face to show signs of aging is usually the eyes, forehead and around the mouth. Environ Skin Care’s Ionzyme Focus Frown Serum ($209.99) reduces fine wrinkles and lines in these areas with the help of Argireline, Leuphasyl and Vialox. We like to think of this product as a more mild, non-invasive version of botox as it targets the same chemical complexes and wrinkle causing mechanisms.

The best serum for your eyes….
The eyes are quite possibly the most sensitive part of the face so it only makes sense that we treat them with an extra special serum! Verso Super Eye Serum ($80) is designed just for the sensitive eye area and works to firm, smooth fine lines, de-puff and lighten dark circles. Retinol 8 is the stabilized vitamin A complex that makes this serum eight times more powerful than standard retinol.

The best serum for dry skin…
Believe it or not seaweed is not only an important sushi ingredient, it also has a very important place on your makeup counter. Seaweed extract from Repechage’s C-Serum Seaweed Filtrate ($55) is packed with vitamins and minerals that moisturize, hydrate and protect the skin from oxidation. Sure, this serum will help to fill in fine lines, but we love its ability to both prevent dehydration and leave the skin feeling supple and youthful. Carrageenan, which comes from red algae is a gel that acts as a rich emollient while another type of algae known as Laminaria Digitata hydrates, nourishes and protects against free-radicals and packs in 12 important vitamins, 18 amino acids and 42 trace elements.

The best serum for skin discoloration and acne scars…
When it comes to brightening your skin, Vitamin C is your new best friend. And while a big glass of OJ won’t cut it, Obagi Professional-C serum 15% ($93) will. It not only provides antioxidant protection to help prevent further skin discoloration, sun spots, and acne scars, but also helps to brighten existing discoloration and to encourage collagen and elastin production for a more even skin tone.

The best serum for adult acne…
If your skin is both starting to show signs of aging and your still prone to the occasional (or frequent!) breakout, Murad Advanced Acne & Wrinkle Reducer ($44) is the ideal serum to add to your skincare routine. Developed for adult acne-prone skin, this serum both treats and prevents breakouts while also minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles for a more youthful-looking complexion—without over-drying.
